2018 was a successful year of consolidation and campaigning for AID/WATCH, including strengthening our on-the-ground links with community-based organisations in Papua New Guinea, and collaborating with partner organisations in Australia

Join us in 2019 to support AID/WATCH in building a collaborative ‘Global Justice Project’ to establish a new focus on a wide range of global justice campaigning in Australia.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 dollars towards building a Global Justice Project, not only as a counterpoint to the Australian ‘aid paradigm’, that favours national interest and private finance over the need for real aid, but to go beyond the ‘aid lens’ and build a movement that is grounded in global justice.

It is now the end of the financial year and all donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible! If everyone donated $5 we would reach our goal of $10,000!

AID/WATCH is establishing this collaborative project with Australian partner organisations to focus on land grabbing, alternatives to development, and economic, environmental and climate justice. The ‘Global Justice Project’ will be an alliance and a funding vehicle for research, campaigning, and activism around global justice and mutual solidarity with partners and local communities in the global south.

Your financial support will enable AID/WATCH to establish the ‘Global Justice Project’ in 2019 and to deliver on the following related advocacy and campaigning activities:

  • #justice4paga advocacy and campaigning work with thePaga Hill community in Papua New Guinea and Australian partners;
  • Paga Hill social mapping report in collaboration with Jubilee Australia and the Paga Hill community will be released in July 2019. The report documents life before the illegal evictions and demolitions of the Paga Hill community, and what life is like now the community is displaced throughout Port Moresby;
  • Project Sepik Australian Awareness Tour in late 2019 in collaboration with Project Sepik (PNG), Jubilee Australia, and the Northern Rivers Folk Choir. Bringing community representatives from Project Sepik and the Sepik region to Australia the tour will raise awareness on the community campaign for a Sepik river free of large-scale mining by PanAust, an Australian-based, Chinese-owned company headquartered in Brisbane; and
  • A Green New Deal for Australia, AID/WATCH will lead on a global justice perspective in collaboration with Climate Justice Collective Australia in demanding a radical, progressive ‘Green New Deal’ for Australia.

AID/WATCH will continue to monitor Australian aid and foreign policies whilst advocating against bad aid and the aid-industrial complex. However, we are excited to be expanding our work with the broader mandate of Global Justice with the aim to create a just and equal world in which Australians act in mutual solidarity with those in the global south.

We deeply appreciate your interest, time, donations and membership over the past year.

We thank you for your continued support to help us expose the impacts of the Australian aid program and to establish a new focus for the wide range of international justice-focused campaigning in Australia.

Yours sincerely,
