OPENING AND CLOSING REMARKS

Clinton Fernandes. Clinton is a Professor of International and Political Studies at the University of New South Wales and a member of the AidWatch Committee of Management. Clinton has authored several books and has written numerous articles providing critical insight into Australia’s relationships with the US and its influence on Australian foreign policy and its political strategy.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Ms Julia Pauline Puno, Secretary-General of the Asia Pacific Research Network (APRN). APRN is a regional network of research NGOs of which AidWatch has been a member since the network formed. Through research and knowledge-sharing APRN raises the capacities of organisations to do development work and serves as a network of alternative centers for people’s research on socioeconomic and geopolitical issues. APRN’s recent focus has been on the rise of militarisation and its implications.

Mr Renato M. Reyes, Jr is the current President of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan/New Patriotic Alliance (Bayan) having served as its secretary-general previously from 2004-2023. Renato has written extensively on US military presence in the Philippines, human rights and state terrorism, and Philippine-US relations.
